As a group of fourteen architects (Generation 33), we looked at Estonia's logistical landscape through the lens of its two most profitable products: fresh milk and wooden prefabricated houses. This research eventually became a dossier (comprising diagrams, plans, and architectural projects) and a documentary. </image:caption>

Invited by prof. Nicolas Petillon to the Master Studio 'Wooncultuur / the culture of dwelling', I spoke to the students about the history of the corridor, an architectural feature that only fully emerged in Western (domestic) architecture after 1650. To understand its cultural importance, two texts are crucial : 'Corridor Spaces' (2010) by Mark Jarzombek and 'Figures, Doors and Passages' (1978) by Robin Evans.</image:caption>

This is achieved through bulky books, massive physical models, or large-format prints. Alongside large publications, large-scale architectural models (whether rough or highly sophisticated) serve as tools to stimulate thoughts and playful tools for understanding, interpreting, and imagining the materiality of architecture in its broader sense. Despite advancements in digital modelling offering advantages like quick prototyping and editing, analog models offer deeper experiential engagement in real space and provide a tactile and sensory experience." </image:caption>

<image:caption>Though not a natural habitat, Metabolic Wall nonetheless serves as a place that seeks a relation with both humans and other living beings. It invites people, animals, fungi, and decay to interact with its structure. Positioned at the threshold of a walking trail, it becomes a gateway to the surrounding landscape and the historic village beyond. As a singular linear gesture, it traces a subtle boundary across the terrain—not to enclose or exclude, but to frame and reveal. The pavilion resists interiorization, offering no inside or outside; instead, it establishes a permeable threshold that invites coexistence. Designed to dissolve over time, it transforms architecture into a seasonal offering shaped by ecological rhythms and multispecies agency.</image:caption>
The Capanne is a design proposal that explores how the intimacy of a fireplace can be translated into the openness of a festival environment. The project consists of a circular arrangement of small cabins gathered around a central fire, reinterpreting the Flemish beach cabin as a space for warmth and proximity. Each cabin forms a sheltered niche that supports quiet conversation and collective presence.

The installation is constructed from reclaimed timber and reused blue roof tiles, foregrounding material reuse as a design principle rather than a constraint. The cabins lightly touch at selected points, creating moments of contact while maintaining spatial autonomy. Conceived with a multi-year lifespan, the structure can be disassembled and redeployed in other public contexts as a temporary communal space.
Although the function of a corridor is obvious (which is circulation), its use is ambiguous. That is to say that, in its most rigid condition, it is an empty linear space with doors that lead to destinations. We move through the corridor. But sometimes we stop, take a pause, and do something in it, we live in it, and suddenly the corridor becomes a room. Usually, there are objects that you can do in a corridor, but we don’t do them because that is not appropriate. But also because the objects that we need to use for those activities are not supposed to stand in the corridor but in an assigned room. We clean ourselves in the bathroom and we sleep in the bedroom.

What if the corridor becomes a destination in itself? What if we break the room with the corridor, the destination with its journey? We are in a space that has no apparent program and we impose objects and activities on it that we associate with rooms. In other words, About Corridors challenges and explores the absence or presence of programs in the corridor.

Despite advancements in digital modelling offering advantages like quick prototyping and editing, analog models offer deeper experiential engagement in real space and provide a tactile and sensory experience." </image:caption>

lecture at TU Muchen
27.11.2024
Happy to have been invited by Juan Benavides to speak on behalf of Berlage's Generation 33 on our 2023 research project called 'Project Global: The Logistics of Milk & Timber' at the Architekturmuseum der TUM to students and teachers of the TUM Department of Architecture. As a group of fourteen architects (Generation 33), we looked at Estonia's logistical landscape through the lens of its two most profitable products: fresh milk and wooden prefabricated houses. This research eventually became a dossier (comprising diagrams, plans, and architectural projects) and a documentary. </image:caption>

lecture at UA
18.10.2024
On 18.10.2024, an informative session was held on the topic of the corridor at the University of Antwerp, for Master students in architecture.

Throughout the two weeks, students explored ideas of space, performance, composition, comedy, and movement, which manifested themselves in four films, four structures, and four manifestos."</image:caption>
